Welfare Schemes hit on high cost for govt medical college: Kandasamy

Puducherry,Jan 27(UNI)Welfare Minister M Kandasamy today said the implementation of welfare schemes have been affected because of higher allocation for the government medical college here.

Speaking at a function organised by a private institution on the occasion of 'Anti-Leprosy Day,' Mr Kandasamy said none of the Ministers were opposing the setting up of the college.

But when private medical colleges were coming up at a cost of Rs 90 or Rs 100 crore, the allocation of Rs 853 crore for the government institution was high. This in turn affected the implementation of welfare schemes.

Mr Kandasamy also distributed Rs 2.90 lakh contributed by a voluntary organisation in Spain as educational assistance to students affected by leprosy and 165 students whose parents were affected by the disease, at the function.
