About 4000 athlets to participate in State Olympic Games from Feb 4
Bangalore, Jan 24 (UNI) More than 4000 athletes are expected to participate in the Karnataka State Olympic Games to be held in Mandya, Mysore and Bangalore from February four to 10.
The tournament, organised after a gap of four years, was organised jointly by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) and Karnataka Olympic Association (KOA).
DYSS Secretary Amar Kumar Pandey told newsmen that while Swimming, riffle shooting and Triathlon would be held in Bangalore, Archery, Athletics, Basketball, Cycling, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Handball, Table Tennis, Weightlifting. Wrestling would be held in Mysore and Badminton, boxing, Football, Fencing, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Lawn Tennis, Netball, Taekwondo, Volleyball would be held in Mandya.
KOA President K Govindraj said that the Games would run as selection trial to select the State team for the forthcoming National Games in Jharkhand, for National Youth Games scheduled to be held here and in Mysore in April-May and the winners get an opportunity to get into the National team for the Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in Pune.
