3-day seminar on Sangam Literature concludes

Kuppam, Jan 24 (UNI) Emphasising the need for more research to historicise the Sangam period, a three-day International seminar on Sangam Literature concluded here today.

The seminar was organised jointly by the Department of Tamil Language and Translation Studies, Dravidian University and the Centre of Excellence for Classical Tamil, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore.

Speaking at the valedictory function, Tamil University( Thanjavur) Vice-Chancellor, C Subramanyam said there should be concentrated efforts to improve Dravidian art, literature and language, without which integration among the Dravidian people cannot be achieved.

Presiding over the function, Dravidian University Vice-Chancellor G Lakshminarayana said Sangam Literature was not a matter of glorification and what we require was to look into the historical relevance of it. How Sangam Literature contributed to the body of Dravidian aesthetics should be the thrust area of the research, he added.

National University of Singapore S P Thinnappan and Cornell University of USA Andrew Wilford also spoke on the occasion.
