East Godavari tops AP in paddy production

Kakinada, Jan 19 (UNI) East Godavari district topped the state by achieving a record yield of 44 bags of paddy per acre during the last Rabi, thus surpassing the record of 2002, District Collector M Subrahmanyam said today.

Addressing a special function at Krishi Bhavan here, he attributed the achievement to the 'polam badi' programme that created awareness on modern agricultural practices among farmers.

Zilla Parishad Chairman Ch S Venugopalakrishna said 5,000 high-yielding milch cattle would be supplied to the farmers in the district at a cost of Rs 14 crore.

Minister for Social Welfare Pilli Subhas Chandra Bose, who was the chief guest at the function, presented Best Performance Awards to 18 farmers.
