Agitators blocked road to protest against sexual harassment
Sambalpur, Jan 19 (UNI) Hundreds of villagers and members of Hindu Jagarana Samukhya today blocked the NH 6, near Rengalpali in Atabari block of Baragaraha district, to protest against the alleged sexual harassment of girl students by the authorities of a mission school .
The agitators withdrew their protest after Baragaraha Police Superintendent Sanjiv Panda had promised to arrest the culprits within 24 hours.
The SP said, '' We have detained three people including director of the school S Lima in connection with the incident and further investigation is on.'' The agitators demanded immediate arrest of the people involved in the crime and stern action against the guilty.
The girls students alleged that Mr Samarpana Lima, the director of the school, regularly harassed them sexually.
Many girls had left the school hostel earlier for that reason but neither had they nor their parents made any complaint before police out of fear, the girls told police.
