Labour Ministry completes verification of Central Trade Unions
New Delhi, Jan 14 (UNI) The Labour and Employment Ministry today said it had completed the verification of registered trade unions affiliated to various Central Trade Union Organisations with December 31, 2002 as the date of reckoning for the purpose of determining their strength.
The ministry said the exercise was undertaken to provide Central Trade Unions representation in national and international conferences, committees and councils.
The verification was conducted by the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) and his field officers in pursuance of the Delhi High Court order of July 25, 2003 and subsequent orders of the Labour and Employment Ministry.
The government recognises only those Central Trade Union Organisations, which have a verified membership of at least 5,00,000 and are spread over a minimum of four states and four industries, including those in the agriculture and rural sectors.
The ministry said it considered the report of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) before issuing a notification on the strength of various Central Trade Unions.
