Shimla civic body adopt "dual effect" policy to save ecology
Shimla, Jan 13 (UNI) Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) has devised a strategy to save its scenic beauty by practising the novel 'dual effect' idea.
The civic body is mulling over the proposal of bringing up parking lots on land pockets that are piled up with rubble.
Keeping in view the increasing threat to ecology of the town due to indiscriminate dumping of rubble on hill slopes, which is resulting in drying up of trees, the SMC has decided to identify maximum number of dumping sites and convert these into parking locations.
Mayor Narender Kataria has asked all the twenty-five councillors of the SMC to make efforts to identify lands in their respective wards that can be developed as dumping site for debris and converted into into parking lots.
''We are endeavouring to find more and more land in all the wards that can be developed as dumping sites and later, when these dumping sites are completely packed with rubble we can develop these sites as parking lots,'' Mr Kataria said here today.
The forest department had already given approval to four dumping sites at Snowdon, Vijay Nagar, Anadale and Auckland.
