Farmers lay siege to Office of Land Acquisition Officer
Mysore, Jan 10 (UNI) The farmers of six villages in Bellary district today laid siege to the office of Special Land Acquisition Officer at Hoovanahadagali, alleging that the officer concerned had taken bribe from them promising release of compensation towards their land acquired for the Huligudda Lift Irrigation Project.
Police said the villagers, who came in search for the officer Mari Gowda, found that he had left the place, on transfer, without informing them.
The farmers alleged that the officer had collected Rs 30,000 from 500 farmers, promising them early compensation towards 3,160 acres of land acquired about two years ago.
