Low circulation of fake notes in TN, Pondy: RBI

Chennai, Jan 10 (UNI) Officials of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said the circulation of forged notes was low in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

At a public awareness campaign -- 'Detection of forged notes and exchange of new notes for soiled ones'-- here yesterday, senior officials said against a combined daily circulation of currency notes to the tune of Rs 50,000 crore in Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Puducherry, the number of forged notes detected by both private and nationalised banks were only around 4,000.

The RBI and SBI were jointly conducting the campaign for the second time after December 2007.
