Shillong, Jan 9 (UNI) Offices in the state capital of Meghalaya continued to wear a deserted look during the second day of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) sponsored office picketing.

Attendance at state and central government offices was thin. In banks too, there was negligible presence of staff with hardly any office work being carried out.

''The functioning of office is normal and there was no report of any untoward incident,'' a government official said.

However, in two other districts--West Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi-- attendance at government offices was about 70 per cent.

The agitation was called by the KSU in the three districts of East and West Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi demanding scrapping of the power agreement inked between the state government and private companies.

Meanwhile, the KSU is demanding immediate scrapping of the deal terming it as a 'total-sell out of the people's interest'.

With the state government hinting that it would go ahead with its agreement, the KSU and other organisations opposed to the deal have decided to meet and chart their next course of action.

''We will meet again and decide what course of action to be taken,'' KSU President Samuel Jyrwa said.
