Malayala Manorama's farming award goes to Malappuram couple
New Delhi, Jan 4 (UNI) The prestigious 'Karshakashri' award given for achievements in farming has gone to a farmer couple, M Mohammad and his wife Shakeela Mohammad, from Malappuram district of Kerala.
The award instituted by Malayala Manorama carries a cash prize of Rs two lakh, a medallion and a citation. It is given biennially.
The couple were honoured for innovative measures in farm production and marketing of their produce.
They were selected out of one hundred applicants by a jury headed by renowned agricultural scientist M S Swaminathan.
The jury also commended the achievements of some other contestants, a Malayala Manorama release said here today.
