Gang of ATM robbers busted, about half of stolen amount recovered

New Delhi, Jan 3 (UNI) Police have busted a gang who robbed over six lakh from various Automated Teller machines (ATMs) of the ICICI Bank across Delhi in a day, and recovered over three-and-a-half lakh rupees of the stolen amount from them.

The Vasant Kunj police arrested three members of the gang -- Prashant Sharma, Mohit Malik, and Dinesh Kumar, all employees of the firm having the contract for maintainance of the ATMs, after they were identified by the guards at the ATMs and on basis of the close-circuit TV recordings. The fourth one, Ankush, who is a cousin of Dinesh, is absconding.

The four, having no problem in accessing the ATMs, used to pull down the shutters of the ATM on the pretext of repairs and then commit the offence.

A complaint regarding theft of Rs 1,84,000 from the bank ATM in Sector B-7 Market in Vasant Kunj was registered on December 30. The guard was interrogated and it was learnt that the two employees of the maintance company had come there that day. All the employees were interrogated and the guard at the ATM identified the two, who were arrested.

The accused confessed to the offence and also disclosed that the other two had robbed the bank ATM in Chandni Chowk, and stolen Rs 4,50,00 from there. On the basis of their information, raids were conducted at various places and Rs 3,55,000 recovered.

All the three, residents of UP's Baghpat district, have been charged under Section 380 of the IPC.
