Dy EC holds meeting with State officials on voter's list
Bangalore, Jan 2 (UNI) The Central Election Commission today began its detailed discussions with State Election Commission officials on finalising the electoral role revision ahead of the mid-term elections to state Assembly likely to be held in May this year.
Deputy Election Commissioner R Bhattacharya arrived in the city today and held discussions with top officials from both State Election Commission and the State government. This included Chief Electoral Officer Ramaseshan and Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Commissioner Subramanya.
Official sources said the EC had asked the state government officials to expedite the preparation of latest voters' list which is in final stages.
After the fall of the week-old BJP-led coalition government in October, Karnataka has been under President's rule.
The EC rushed Mr Bhattacharya after it was not satisfied with the slow progress in preparation of the electoral rolls in the state. He would be staying in the city for three days to ensure the early completion of the voter's list for which qualifying date was fixed as January one, 2008.
