Haneef's wife thanks people for support
Bangalore, July 16: The family of Mohammed Haneef who was released on Bail by a Brisbane court in connection with trhe failed terrorist attack on the Glasgow Airport were greatly relieved on hearing the news.
''I am thankful to all those people who prayed for Haneef and Me," was the reaction from Firdous Arshiya, the wife of Dr Haneef told newsmen at her residence here today.
"I thank our Prime Minister also. We were sure that just giving a sim card was not an offense and Haneef had no links with terrorists," she said.
Dr Haneef, was released on bail by a Brisbane court after he spent 14 days in custody of the Australian Federal Police (AFP) who had arrested him on July 2 at the behest of the British police following the June 30 attack.
The Bangalore based doctor working at Gold Coast hospital was however not charged for 12 days before AFP slapped him with charges like 'recklessly' helping the terrorist act by lending the sim card to an accused in terrorist act.
"I am not thinking of going to Australia yet. I hope to talk to Haneef today and decide about it," she said.
Meanwhile, the Australian authorities have revoked Haneef's visa and he would be held at Sydney Detention centre. It was cancelled as he had failed in character test, according to Australian Immigration Ministry.
Haneef would have to report to a police station regularly. The next hearing of the case was posted for August 31 by Brisbane Magistrate's court. The Indian doctor was released on a bond of 10,000 Australian dollars.
Three Indian, all belonging to Bangalore, were charged in the Glasgow attack. Kafeel Ahmed, an engineer studying doctoral degree in England is the main accused among Indian for trying to ram a flaming Jeep Charokee into the airport. His brother Sabeel Ahmed, a doctor working in Liverpool is the co-accused and Haneef was detained as he had given him his sim card before leaving England to take up a job in Australia.
