Water level in Krishna dam nearing full capacity
Mysore, July 11: Following early onset of South West monsoon inthe catchment areas of the river Cauvery, the water level in KrishnaRaja Sagar (KRS) is nearing full capacity.
The water level was 120.35 feet against full capacity of 124 ftwith inflow being 51,643 cusecs. The outflow was maintained at 7,604cusecs.
The authorities are planning to increase the outflow as soon asthe water level reaches its maximum level. The Mandya District DeputyCommissioner Manjunatha Prasad had held a meeting with irrigationauthorities about release of water.
Following heavy rains in the catchment areas of Wynad in KeralaState, the Kabini Reservoir was getting continuous inflow and the waterlevel had touched 2,282.75 ft against maximum level of 2,284 ft. Thelevel was maintained below the maximum for safety of the dam. Theinflow and outflow stood at 26,248 cusecs and 25,005 cusecsrespectively.
The water level in the Harangi Reservoir in Kodagu had alreadytouched the maximum with today's reading of 2,857.95 ft. The inflow was6,130 cusecs and the outflow 6,130 cusecs respectively.
In Hemavathi Reservoir in Hassan District, the water level stoodat 2,920 ft against full level of 2,922 ft. The inflow and outflow were25,000 cusecs and 20,000 cusecs respectively.
In Kodagu, District Incharge Minister Ramachandregowda toldnewspersons that the loss due to rain since June was estimated at Rs 34crore. The government had already released Rs 1.5 crore and another Rsten crore would be released shortly, he said and added the region hadreceived 1,337 mm of rain during the month and 125 taluks were affected.
