2,039 pilgrims leave for Amarnath shrine on day 9

Jammu, July 10: The ninth batch of 1,824 pilgrims left Jammu base camp for Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas this morning, official sources said.

A 67 vehicles convoy carrying, 1,337 men, 427 women, 133 sadhus and 82 children, left for Nunwan and Baltal yatra camps at 0445hrs, sources said.

A total of 18,368 pilgrims have officially left the base camp here for the Amarnath cave shrine after the commencement of the yatra on July 2, after a two-day delay following bad weather conditions.

Rains and landslides en route the cave shrine make the track slippery and risky.
