Yechury to witness peace pact signing in Nepal
New Delhi, Nov 15: CPI (M) polit bureau member Sitaram Yechury will be the top Indian leader in Kathmandu to witness the signing of the peace accord between the Nepalese government and the Maoists tomorrow.
Mr Yechury, who played a key role in bringing the seven-party alliance and the Maoists together during the pro-democracy movement in Nepal last year, left for Kathmandu today.
''He (Mr Yechury) was invited to Nepal by the political parties,'' said CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat.
The CPI (M) polit bureau discussed the peact pact to be signed tomorrow by the government led by the seven-party alliance and the Maoists.
''We discussed the peace agreement in detail,'' Mr Karat said adding the party would have a better understanding of the situation when Mr Yechury returns from Kathmandu tomorrow.
Mr Karat, however, declined to comment on what impact the peace agreement would have on the Indian Maoists.
The seven-party alliance had invited Mr Yechury to Kathmandu after it had formed the government following the success of the anti-monarch protests.
