US assistant secretary arrives in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, Nov 15: US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher arrived here today on a three-day visit to Nepal to discuss the latest political development in the Himalayan nation.

I will discuss the latest efforts in the ongoing peace deal, he told media at the airport.

He welcomed the peace agreement between the seven-party alliance and the Maoists and said the US was optimistic about the peace process.

Joint effort would play a comprehensive role in restoring permanent peace in the country, he said.

Mr Boucher's visit coincides with the signing of the comprehensive peace accord tomorrow by the Government of Nepal and the CPN (Maoist).

The Assistant Secretary will meet top political leaders, government representatives, and members of the civil society among others during his stay.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Sitaram Yenchury is scheduled to arrive today to attend the endorsement of the agreement between the seven parties and the Maoists to be held tomorrow.
