Congress strength increases in Telengana Region

Hyderabad, Aug 31: Andhra Pradesh Congress Commitee (APCC) today said the party's strength had gone up in the Telangana Region due to various developmental schemes initiated by the State Government during the last two years.

Talking to newspersons here Party spokespersons P Venkata Rao and N Tulasi Reddy said the government headed by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, would take up several projects to develop the region.

They denied the TRS charge that the Congress had lost its base in Telangana region. They ridiculed the statement of TRS leaders that their party would win 100 assembly and 15 Lok Sabha seats in the next elections.

They said the percentage of Congress votes had gone up from 24.7 per cent to 39.3 per cent during the last two years. The party had gained 7.6 per cent votes in the entire state and 15.4 in Telangana region, whereas the TRS votes were reduced from 20 per cent in 2001 to 6.1 per cent in 2006, ZPTC elections, they added.

They said Telangana was a national issue and the Congress has been trying to evolve a consensus among various political parties in the country.
