'Consensus among parties vital for Telangana'

Hyderabad, Aug 30: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President K Keshava Rao said the unity among the political parties was crucial to attain statehood for Telangana.

Talking to newspersons at the party headquarters here today Mr Rao said the Telengana statehood issue was in the hands of the Congress President Sonia Gandhi. The party was sincerely trying to evolve a consensus on it, he added.

He said the party would abide by the decision of Ms Gandhi who was sincerely trying for a consensus.

The Congress was trying for consensus among the United Progressive Allinace (UPA) constituents he said and added that the CPI and CPM were opposed to the constitution of small states.

Stating that his party had no confidence on BJP support he said the Congress would not seek the support of that Party.

Referring to the remarks of the TRS leader Narendra against him, he said ''I am leaving it to his own wisdom. Narendra is my friend. I respect everyone. But I take strong objection to the language he used against Congress and its leaders.
