Brinda Karat criticises Jaswant on Mole issue

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 6: Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member and senior leader Brinda Karat today alleged the Mole-in-the-PMO issue exposed the utterly hypocritical stand of the Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP), which had adopted ''Pro-United States'' approach, when it was in power.

Addressing a press conference, Mrs Karat said the whole country wants to know from BJP, why it kept such important information regarding the breach of security of the country by the Americans, ''secret'' for 11 long years. It means that the BJP had kept it a secret to defend the American interest, she charged.

She said the CPM believed that it was not in the interest of the Country. The CPM wants to know whether this information was shared with the then Prime Minister A B Vajpayee and the Home Minister L K Advani by Mr Jaswant Singh and if so, what was their action, or why it was not taken.

So either the BJP is protecting Jaswant Singh, or the BJP agrees that the secrets of the country can be shared with American or the BJP leadership itself knew about it and they were partners in this crime, she charged.

She also criticised the BJP for defending Jaswant Singh and not taking action against him.
