Take action against Jaswant, ban his book: CPI

New Delhi, Aug 3: The CPI today demanded of the Government to take stringent action against former external affairs minister Jaswant Singh for his ''unsubstantiated'' allegation of the presence of an American mole in the PMO during the P V Narasimha Rao's regime, besides a ban on his book 'A Call to Honour'.

''Mr Singh, by making this allegation in his book has brought a disgrace to the country and India's prestige and honour has been damaged on the international level,'' CPI floor leaders in the Lok Sabha told a news conference in the vicinity of Parliament House.

The CPI leaders said since the Mr Jaswant Singh had failed in revealing the name of the 'mole', the relevant portions in the book be deleted from the book.

''If he (Dr Singh) does not agree to this proposal, the book should be banned with immediate effect,'' CPI floor leader Gurudas Dasgupta said.

The CPI leader said he did not deserve any Parliamentary immunity as he had levelled the charge outside the Parliament.

The CPI leaders, however, also took strong exception to the government's attempts to ''dilute'' the Right to Information and the Tribals Acts.

Referring to certain US high officials denying the assertions of Mr Singh, they said he was indeed trying to project his anti-US ima ge. ''But the whole world knows about the reality.'' CPI Deputy leader C K Chandrappan and chief whip Ajay Chakraborty were also present.
