Israel and Lebanon dispute timing of air strikes
Beirut, July 31: Israeli warplanes today launched air raids on eastern Lebanon on Monday that Lebanese security sources said occurred soon after the Jewish state suspended aerial bombardment of southern Lebanon for 48 hours.
Israel said it had launched air strikes in the area overnight but that they had taken place before the suspension began.
''Since the 48-hour ceasefire was declared, there have been absolutely no air strikes in that area,'' an Israeli army spokeswoman said.
The Lebanese sources said at least two air strikes hit roads in the areas of Yanta and Aita al-Fukhar near the border with Syria early today.
The suspension was announced shortly after midnight.
