DMK ends threat to leave UPA govt
Chennai, July 6, 2006: The UPA government has temporarily called off all disinvestment plans, including Neyveli Lignite Corporation in Tamil Nadu. The move comes after the coalition government's key southern ally Chief Minister M Karunanidhi of Tamil Nadu threatened to pull out.
The threat followed the UPA government's decision to disinvest 10 per cent stake in Neyveli Lignite Corporation.
Karunanidhi of the DMK party indicated the disinvestment plan was an embarrassment.
The DMK has six ministers in the UPA government and 16 members in Parliament's Lower House.
