Rajnath nonplussed by Atalji's suggestion

Chinor, MP, June 1: BJP President Rajnath Singh today seemed nonplussed vis-a-vis party bigwig and former premier Atal Bihari Vajpayee's suggestion that the party organisation ought to contemplate why several leaders were leaving BJP ranks.

''I have no information regarding attempts to re-induct any leader into the party,'' he told journalists after inaugurating the Harsi dam main canal restructuring project here.

When it was pointed out that, in the capacity of BJP chief, he ought to be best informed of any such move, Mr Singh first attempted to dodge the query. but later clarified that he had no information ''at this juncture.'' Mr Singh began by saying that Mr Vajpayee was ''our guide'' and then added that every person, organisation and political party must contemplate.

When asked what was being done at the organisational level vis-a-vis Mr Vajpayee's suggestion, Mr Singh said,'' The BJP is functioning as per the guidelines of Mr Vajpayee and Mr Advani.

Whatever they say will be executed.'' He assumed a defensive stance when asked whether the exit of former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti, ex-Delhi chief minister Madan Lal Khurana and former Jharkhand chief minister Babulal Marandi weakened the BJP.

''You can provide a better reply to that question,'' he told the assembled mediapersons.
