BJP to hold sathyagraha in Jammu from June 6

Bangalore, June 1: Strongly condemning terrorists' attempt to storm the RSS headquarters in Nagpur, Bharatiya Janata Party Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu today announced that his party will hold a week-long 'Sathyagraha' in Jammu from June six to protest against increasing terrorist activities and the UPA Government's ''indifferent'' attitude in dealing with it.

Addressing newspersons here, he said he would lead the first batch of sathyagrahis, followed by various other State leaders.

Except Chief Ministers and their Cabinet members, BJP leaders from all States, including all Legislators, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members, would participate in the programme.

Alleging that the Union Government's lack of conviction and resolve to fight extremists had emboldened terror outfits to target sensitive places, the BJP leader claimed that the country had been witnessing a spurt in terrorist attacks, especially in Jammu and Kashmir, ever since the UPA Government assumed office and the POTA was repealed. Ultras had attacked Sankatavimochana temple in Kasi, made an attempt in Ayodhya, massacred over 32 Hindus in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir and planted explosives at Jama Masjid in Delhi, he pointed out.

Mr Naidu alleged that both the Congress and Left parties were going soft on terrorist activities and adopting a short-sighted policy with an eye on the vote bank. He took exception to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visiting Jama Masjid after the explosion, but not Varanasi, Ayodhya and Doda.

The BJP demanded that the UPA Government re-enact an Act similar to the POTA to deal firmly with terrorists, strengthen Army presence in the troubled Jammu and Kashmir and provide Village Defence Committees adequate arms and ammunition to match the fire power of terrorists.
