Mir, two others arrested ahead of PM's round-table

Srinagar, May 24 : Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF-Nanaji Group) Convenor Javed Ahmed Mir and two of his senior colleagues were arrested to prevent them from taking out a rally coinciding with the second round-table conference here today.

Mr Mir along with Mohammad Iqbal Gandroo and Shafat Ahmed Shangloo were taken into preventive custody near Sher-i-Kashmir Muncipal Park here at 1915 hrs last evening.

They have been lodged at the Pantha Chowk Police Station on the outskirts of the city.

Talking to UNI, Mr Mir said they wanted to take a peaceful rally to impress upon India and Pakistan to include the people of Jammu and Kashmir into any dialogue process.

''The people of the state need to be taken into confidence before arriving at any solution to the Kashmir issue,'' he added.

Mr Mir said his group also wanted to hand over a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who arrived here this morning to chair the round-table conference.
