Syed Ali Shah Geelani put under house arrest

Srinagar, May 24 : Chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani was today put under house arrest, official sources said.

They said Mr Geelani, who rejected the offer of Round Table conference on Kashmir, was put under house arrrest at Hyderpora since early this morning as a precautionary measure.

A spokesman for the HC Aiyaz Akabar told UNI that a large number of police personnel surrounded the Hyderpora residence of Mr Geelani.

A senior officer informed Mr Geelani that he could not leave his home until further orders.

Mr Geelani had given a two-day general strike call from today against Round Table conference being chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here.
