Consulting experts on Jaya disqualification, says Kalam

On Board the President's Aircraft, Mar 8: President A P J Abdul Kalam today said he was consulting constitutional experts on the Election Commission's recommendation to him to disqualify film star Jaya Bachchan from the Rajya Sabha.

''I have received a notice from the Election Commission. I am studying it,'' Dr Kalam told reporters.

''I am trying to consult constitutional experts,'' he added.

Ms Bachchan had written a letter to the President urging him to send the recommendation back to the EC.

Dr Kalam is on a six-day visit to Myanmar and Mauritius.
