Noted Malayalam Director Mohan Passes Away

Noted Malayalam filmmaker Mohan passed away on Tuesday in Kochi. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

He is survived by his wife-actress Anupama, and their two sons, Purandar Mohan and Upendhar Mohan.

Who Was Mohan?

After completing his graduation at Irinjalakuda Christ College, Mohan worked as an assistant to many notable directors including M Krishnan Nair, Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair, AB Raj, Madhu, and P Venu. He also served as an assistant director on Hariharan's Rajahamsam.

Mohan made his directorial debut with 'Vadaka Veedu' in 1978, and went on to create several successful films. Among his notable works were 'Shalini Ente Koottukari', which showcased actress Shobha's finest performance, and 'Vida Parayum Munpe', which captivated audiences with Nedumudi Venu's stellar acting.

His filmography includes 23 films such as 'Ilakkangal', 'Idavela', 'Alolam', 'Rachana', 'Mangalam Nerunnu', 'Theertham', 'Sruthi', 'Oru Katha Oru Nunakkatha', 'Isabella', 'Pakshe', 'Sakshyam,' and 'Angane Oru Avadhikkalathu'.

His last film 'Campus' was released in 2005.

Mohan was known for his innovative approach to cinema, blending fresh storylines, new actors, and unique visual styles. His film Randu 'Pen Kuttikal' marked a significant departure from traditional Malayalam cinema, introducing themes and narratives previously unseen in the industry.
