Malayalam Actor Shine Tom Chacko Arrested In Drugs Case After Video Of Him Escaping From Hotel Went Viral
Malayalam film actor Shine Tom Chacko, who had reportedly fled from a hotel in Kochi during a narcotics raid earlier this week, was taken into custody by Kochi police on Saturday following approximately four hours of questioning in connection with a drug-related case.
Police officials stated that Chacko has been booked under Sections 27 (pertaining to the consumption of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances) and 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Authorities further confirmed that a medical examination and subsequent legal proceedings would follow in due course.
The 41-year-old actor, who rose to fame with the fantasy-comedy 'Ithihasa' - the highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2014 - appeared before Kochi City Police on Saturday after receiving a formal summons for questioning.
The controversy erupted earlier in the week on Wednesday, when Chacko allegedly absconded during a police raid connected to suspected drug usage.
Adding to the scandal, actor Vincy Aloshious on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce and the internal complaints committee of the Malayalam film industry, accusing Chacko of inappropriate behaviour on the sets of the film 'Suthravakyam', allegedly while under the influence of alcohol.
In an Instagram video, Vincy recounted her ordeal and declared she would no longer collaborate with individuals who abuse substances such as drugs or alcohol.
Moreover, earlier this month, Chacko was also named by a woman drug peddler who was taken into custody. She reportedly confessed to supplying narcotics to both Shine Tom Chacko and actor Sreenath Bhasi.
