Kerala Teen Succumbs To Nipah Virus Day After Testing Positive
A 14-year-old boy from Malappuram district in Kerala died on Sunday after being diagnosed with the Nipah virus, according to Kerala Health Minister Veena George.
The boy tested positive for the virus on Saturday and suffered a massive cardiac arrest at 10:50 am on Sunday, which led to his passing at 11:30 am despite revival efforts.

"He was on ventilator support. The urine output had reduced this morning. After a massive cardiac arrest, the revival efforts failed and he passed away at 11.30 am," George stated.
The boy's last rites will follow medical protocols.
Four other individuals who tested positive for the Nipah virus are currently in the "high risk category" and receiving treatment at Manjeri Medical College.
The epicenter of the outbreak is in Pandikkad, Malappuram district, reported India Today.
In response, George issued an advisory urging people in the affected areas and nearby hospitals to wear masks in public and avoid visiting patients.
The public was also advised to avoid consuming fruits that appear to be bitten by animals and to thoroughly wash fruits before eating.
"Eat fruits only after washing them properly. Do not consume beverages such as toddy which are stored in open containers," the health ministry advisory warned.
The state government is preparing a special action calendar to prevent further Nipah outbreaks, which have previously occurred in Kozhikode district in 2018, 2021, and 2023, and in Ernakulam district in 2019.
Nipah virus antibodies have been detected in bats across several districts including Kozhikode, Wayanad, Idukki, Malappuram, and Ernakulam.
