Kerala govt issues Onam ban during office hours

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 31: Amid preparations ahead of Onam festival (to be held on September 13), the Kerala government has issued an order to ban celebrations during office hours.

All the department heads of the government have been asked to ensure that the rules are followed.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan had earlier said that floral art competitions should not be conducted during office hours, but at the end of the day.

This has attracted criticism from various quarters of the working class who believe that Vijayan should focus on disciplining trade union leaders who call for strikes and bandhs during office hour, rather than stopping Onam celebrations at office.
