Graft case returns to haunt Kerala Chief Minister

The CBI had filed a revision petition in a case where the Kerala Chief Minister is accused of fraudulently executing a contract with SNC Lavalin, a Canadian company

The Kerala High court on Tuesday agreed to hear a petition filed by the CBI in a graft case involving Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The CBI had filed a revision petition in a case where the Kerala Chief Minister is accused of fraudulently executing a contract with SNC Lavalin, a Canadian company, to renovate Pallivasal, Sengulam, and Panniyar hydroelectric projects in the State. The Kerala High Court will hear the petition on December 15.

Pinarayi-vijayan

A special court in Kerala had exonerated him in 2013 following which the CBI approached the appellete court against the order. Vijayan who was then Power Minister, was accused of entering into an agreement with Canadian company SNC-Lavalin in 1997 to repair three generators which caused a loss of Rs 266 crore to the exchequer. Vijayan was arraigned as 7th accused by the CBI.
