MLAs from Kerala to visit Surat
Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 4: An all-party group of MLAs from Kerala led by senior ministers have left for Gujarat to study the urban development programmes in the state.

Reportedly, the nine-member Kerala Legislative Assembly Subject Committee on Local Administration, Rural Development and Housing, chaired by Rural Development Minister K C Joseph, which include Finance Minister K M Mani, Urban and Minority Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhi Ali and Panchayat and Social Welfare Minister M K Muneer will be visiting Surat on December 12 to study the waste management initiatives understaken there.

The committee will also visit Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Pune before heading back to Kerala.

The Assembly Subject Committee includes MLAs K Achuthan (Congress), C Mammootty (IUML), P T A Rahim (National Secular Conference), V Sivankutty, P Sreemakrishnan and K V Vijayadas (CPM) and E K Vijayan (CPI).

The BJP in the state has used this opportunity to emphasis on the success of Gujarat Model of Development. The all party visit to Gujarat proves that the state leads the country in terms on development, the BJP state wing said.

However, Congress said the visit is not to study about the Gujarat model development and it is just limited to Surat plant as waste management is a major problem in Kerala.

Surat is just one of the cities the committe is planning to visit, said a left party MLA, who accused BJP of trying to get a political mileage out of the proposed visit.
