Surat DCP gets life-threatening calls from Asaram supporters

Surat, Oct 21: The controversial self-styled godman Asaram Bapu's supporters have reportedly threatened the Surat's Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shobha Bhutada for her life.

According to reports, DCP Shobha has filed a complaint at the Umra police station in Surat, alleging that she received life-threatening calls by Asaram's supporters on October 16 and October 18.

In her complaint, she has said that the godman's supporters have warned her to immediately stop the investigation against Asaram and his son Narayan Sai, in connection with the sexual assault charges against the father-son duo, otherwise she will be shot dead.

She has also been warned not to search for Narayan Sai, whose whereabouts remain a mystery. Today, his anticipatory bail plea will be heard in a Surat court.

DCP Shobha has filed a complaint at the Umra police station in Surat.

A police official confirmed the complaint filed by the DCP and said, " The mobile number used (to call DCP) is registered to a Dashrat Singh in Madhya Pradesh."

Meanwhile, it was reported that 41-year-old Narayan Sai, who is absconding after Surat-based woman accused him of rape, has "completely changed his looks" by shaving off his hair and beard, in an attempt to elude police to arrest him.

SC refuses Asaram's plea to restraint media to report against him

The Supreme Court on Monday refused the petition filed by self-proclaimed godman Asaram Bapu seeking orders to restrain media from projecting his ashrams as some kind of 'brothels'. However, the court has cautioned media organisations to report 'responsibly' on any pending criminal cases against Asaram.

During interrogation, Surat-based sisters had alleged that Asaram used to send raped girls for 'forced abortions', with the help of one of his aide, Dhruviben, to a hospital.
