Talks between PDP-BJP hits deadlock as J&K stalemate continues

The formation of a government at Jammu and Kashmir is taking longer than it should. Going by the developments currently, it seems as though the back channel talks between the PDP and the BJP have hit a deadlock.

For a considerable amount of time there has been no progress and the PDP continues to remain adamant, a BJP leader informed OneIndia.

Some of the PDP leaders have even urged the party chief Mehbooba Mufti to take a call soon on the government. It will hurt us in the long run, they told Mehbooba at a recent meeting.

However Mehbooba is in the mood to wait a while longer and even told some of her party members that if they were unhappy they were free to leave the party. I do not mind fighting the elections alone, she had also said.

Stalemate continues:

Some PDP leaders have said that this delay would hurt their prospects. In the absence of a government in J&K, it is the Governor who is taking all the decisions and this not augur well with the PDP.

However Mehbooba continues to play the waiting game and feels that all the demands put forth by her have not been met by the BJP.

The BJP on the other hand says that the top brass which has to take the final call has been tied up with a host of issues ranging from the budget session and also the preparations for the forthcoming state elections in various states.

We have done all we could and over the due course of time, we shall do more, the BJP says.

However, the crux of the matter is that both sides do not want to give away too much to each other as they feel it will affect their vote bank.

If the BJP seems too eager, then it will have an impact on its vote bank in Jammu. As of now the BJP has put the ball in the PDP's court and will await a decision from Mehbooba.
