J&K poll: 4th phase tomorrow, Abdullah, Mufti Sayeed's fates to be decided

Srinagar, Dec 13: Eighteen seats in Jammu and Kashmir are set to go to the election on Sunday when the fourth phase of the ongoing assembly poll will be held. [J&K assembly election 2014 schedule]

One-hundred and eighty-two candidates, including state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of National Conference and patron of the People's Democratic Party Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and some other ministers, are in fray in this phase. While Abdullah is contesting from Sonawar seat, Sayeed is contesting from Anantnag. [Jammu and Kashmir polls: 8 anti-mobile voters' squads constituted in Srinagar]

The total number of electorate in this phase is 14.73 lakh (7.6 lakh male and 7.05 lakh female). They will cast their ballots in 1,890 polling centres where security has been beefed up. The security arrangements will be monitored from helicopter during polling.

Separatists have threatened to boycott the election.

The eighteen seats that will go to polling in the fourth phase are:

Hazratbal, Zadibal, Idgah, Khanyar, Habbakadal, Anmirakadal, Sonawar, Batamaloo, Doru, Anantnag, Kokernag, Shangus, Bijbehara, Pahalgam, Wachi, Shopian, Samba and Vijaypur.

Jharkhand is also going to the election along with Jammu and Kashmir. The fifth and the final phase of the election in both states will be held on December 20. The results will be declared on December 23.
