J&K assembly polls: NC candidates pay tribute to Sher-e-Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 6: Saying that commitment of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah to secular ethos of Jammu and Kashmir will continue to inspire generations, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana on Friday called for strengthening this spirit, as inimical forces were bent upon to divide the people for their vested interest.

"The best tribute to Sher-e-Kashmir will be to strengthen Hindu, Muslim, Sikh amity. Which is central to glorious fabric of the state", Rana said while paying glowing tributes to Baba-e-Quom on his birth anniversary at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here this morning.

Senior leaders and the party workers paid floral tributes to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and pledged to work for steering Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh as peaceful, progressive and a politically stable state, which was the dream nurtured by the tallest of the tall leaders of the time all his life.

Echoing sentiments of the workers, Rana recalled how Sher-e-Kashmir stood like a rock to preserve the distinct secular character of the state when it was at peril during the most testing time of the history.

He said National Conference has inherited this legacy and is committed to bequeath it to posterity by setting an example of fighting the divisive and disruptive elements tooth and nail. He urged the people to join this effort and help in restoring Jammu and Kashmir its pristine glory.

Provincial President pledged that each worker of NC will work for the state

"Steering the state to each step of progress is a tribute to Sher-e-Kashmir, who envisioned Jammu and Kashmir as a peaceful and developed state with opportunities of progress to all, irrespective of caste, creed or colour", he said, adding that Dr Farooq Abdullah contributed in this gigantic effort, which is being carried forward with sense of commitment by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Amid chanting of "Sher-e-Kashmir Amar Rahe", the Provincial President pledged that each worker of National Conference will work for taking the state to highest pinnacles of progress and development.

Earlier, the speakers threw light on various facets of Sher-e-Kashmir's life and recalled his sacrifice and contribution to ameliorate the lot of people, especially those belonging to weaker and down-trodden segments of society.

Present on the occasion were Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Provincial Secretary, Mr. Rampal Ex-MLC, Smt. Bimla Luthra MLA, T.S Tony , Satpal Lakhotra, Romesh Motton, Rajesh Bakashi, Pardeep Bali, Haji Mohd Hussian Ex-MLC, Ch. Haroon , Vijay Lochan, Anil Dhar, Israr Khan, Mohinder Gupta, Rashida Begum, Kuldeep Kour, Dr. Gaffor, Abdul Gani Teli , Kuldeep Sangral , Dr. Tara Chand, Som Raj Taroch, Veena oberio, ML Munshi, Sarooj, Pankaj Kohli and others.

The birth anniversary of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah was also observed at all the district and block levels by the National Conference functionaries and workers across the Jammu region.
