Vinesh Phogat Disqualification: Wrestler's Family Alleges Conspiracy By Federation

Wednesday morning came with a big shocker for Indian wrestling fans as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced disqualification of Vinesh Phogat in the 50kg event. Vinesh defeated Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez in a dominating manner by 5-0 in the semi-final.

According to the reports, Olympic authorities found Vinesh Phogat overweight, following which she has been disqualified from the games. Now, her semi-final opponent Lopez will play for the Gold and there will be no match for the bronze medal.

Reacting to the big development, Vinesh Phogat's family alleged that it is a conspiracy done by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), coaches, and support staff.

For the unversed, WFI is being headed by a close aide of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, against whom Vinesh Phogat had staged a protest over the sexual harassment of players.

    Talking to the media, a father-in-law of Vinesh Phogat, Rajpal Rathi said that Vinesh's disqualification is clearly a conspiracy done by people sitting at the top.

    Vinesh Phogat's coach Mahavir Singh termed the disqualification as saddening and the loss of a medal to the country.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had congratulated Vinesh for reaching the finals and sealing a medal for India, also reacted by saying that he is feeling bad after her disqualification, but she is a champion of India.
