"We're grateful to the French crowd and so glad they brought the energy – even though they wanted us to get scored on every play."

U.S. Wheelchair Rugby Triumphs

In wheelchair rugby, Team USA triumphed over Germany with a 57-47 score, largely due to Chuck Aoki's impressive 34 tries. This victory elevated Team USA to second place in Group A, following a previous loss to Japan. Aoki has contributed 74 of the United States' 150 total tries in the tournament so far. The outcomes of later events on Saturday will determine if the Americans advance to the semifinals or participate in an additional "placing position" round.

Swiss Racer Defeats U.S. Champion

Swiss athlete Catherine Debrunner began her six-event Paralympics by defeating Susannah Scaroni of the United States in the women's T54 5,000-meter final. Debrunner clocked a personal best of 10 minutes, 43.62 seconds, while Scaroni finished with silver at 10:45.18. Both athletes competed in the T54 classification for those with spinal cord injuries but normal hand, arm, and trunk function. "Once I knew we were alone I was really happy because I knew I was second or first," Debrunner said. "But then Scaroni went really fast for the last 600 meters so I stayed behind her. Somehow I had some energy left at the end." Debrunner will compete next in the T53 800-meter event on Sunday.

Park Wins Gold in Para Shooting

South Korean para shooter Jinho Park clinched gold in the men's 10-meter air rifle standing SH1 final with a score of 249.4, narrowly missing his own world record by 1.2 points set in May 2023. Park had previously won silver and bronze medals in Tokyo. "It was the only medal I did not have so now I have achieved everything," Park stated. "I feel fulfilled." During the medal ceremony, he reflected on his wife’s sacrifices over the past year as he prepared for the Paralympic Games.

The United States men's goalball team is set to face Iran on Sunday, with the result determining their quarterfinal seeding. The SH1 category includes athletes with missing legs or severe trunk impairments.

The article concludes by highlighting that each athlete's dedication and hard work have led to remarkable achievements at the Paralympics, showcasing their resilience and determination on a global stage.
