Respect Kannadigas' Sentiments: Karnataka Govt Tells RCB On Hindi Social Media Page
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), one of the leading teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has come under fire from Kannadigas for launching a Hindi-language social media page. The move sparked a wave of criticism, with many accusing the team of sidelining Kannada culture and language. The controversy has escalated to the point where the Karnataka state government has stepped in to address the issue.
Shivaraj Thangadagi, the Minister for Kannada and Culture, issued a stern warning, stating that the government will take action if the team does not rectify its course. "RCB must respect the sentiments of Kannadigas. No matter how many times the team has lost, Karnataka fans have stood by them. This loyalty should not be taken for granted," he remarked.

The launch of the Hindi page has not only upset fans but also drawn the ire of prominent Kannada activists. Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) state president T.A. Narayana Gowda voiced his anger in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), accusing RCB of attempting to impose Hindi on Kannadigas.
"The Royal Challengers Bangalore cricket franchise has launched a page in Hindi on social media. They should clarify why this is. If their intention is to impose Hindi slavery on Kannadigas, let them leave Karnataka. We don't need you," he wrote in one of his tweets.
He further emphasized that Kannadigas have been the backbone of RCB's fanbase, contributing significantly to the team's success as a brand, despite it never winning an IPL title. "RCB is one of the wealthiest IPL teams because of the unwavering support of Kannada fans. It's disheartening to see the team ignore this fact," Gowda added in a series of tweets.
The backlash has created a heated debate on social media, with many demanding that RCB prioritize Kannada in its communication. The state government has reiterated its stand, warning RCB to avoid actions that hurt regional sentiments. The controversy has put the team in a tough spot, and fans are closely watching how it addresses these concerns.
