Premier League: Nico Gonzalez Joins Manchester City; Mathys Tel Goes To Tottenham
On the last day of the transfer window deadline for Premier League clubs, Manchester City acquired Nico Gonzalez from Porto, while Bayern Munich's Mathys Tel joined Tottenham on loan.
City's midfield weaknesses were evident in a 5-1 defeat to Arsenal, especially with Rodri sidelined due to a knee injury.

Gonzalez, a former Barcelona midfielder, joins City for around 60 million euros. "This is the perfect opportunity for me at this stage of my career," Gonzalez expressed. "I know the reputation Pep has and I cannot wait to work with him. In fact, I am honoured he wants me to play in his team."
Premier League Transfers and Reinforcements
City have already spent over 120 million euros in January, bringing in Egypt forward Omar Marmoush and young defenders Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov. These additions aim to strengthen their squad for upcoming challenges, including a Champions League play-off against Real Madrid.
Tottenham were active as well, securing Tel's services until season end with an option for a permanent move. Initially hesitant, Tel eventually agreed to join Spurs after a £50 million deal with Bayern Munich was finalised.
Missed Opportunities
Despite efforts, Tottenham couldn't secure more defensive players on deadline day. Crystal Palace rejected their 70 million euros bid for captain Marc Guehi. Chelsea's Axel Disasi was linked with Spurs but ended up joining Aston Villa instead.
Aston Villa also strengthened their attack by signing Marco Asensio on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. Asensio, who has three Champions League titles with Real Madrid, joins Marcus Rashford in Unai Emery's forward line following Jhon Duran's departure to Al Nassr.
Other Notable Transfers
Liverpool and Arsenal made no moves on deadline day despite being title contenders. Arsenal's attempt to sign Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa was unsuccessful last week. Manchester United also refrained from making any deals due to financial constraints.
Wolverhampton Wanderers signed Marshall Munetsi from Reims and Nasser Djiga from Red Star Belgrade late on deadline day. Munetsi joins on a three-and-a-half-year deal while Djiga arrives for around 10 million euros on a five-and-a-half-year contract.
Loan Deals and Signings
Everton secured Carlos Alcaraz from Flamengo on loan, marking David Moyes' first signing during his second stint as manager. Everton holds an option to buy Alcaraz at season's end.
West Ham completed the loan signing of Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, reuniting him with former manager Graham Potter. Brighton replaced Ferguson with Stefanos Tzimas, who remains at FC Nuremberg for now.
