Nishchay Achieves Silver Medal in Shot Put at Asian U-18 Athletics Championship

In the Asian Under-18 Athletics Championship held in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, Haryana's Nishchay, aged 16, secured his second medal. He achieved a personal best of 19.59m in the boys' shot put event, earning a silver medal on Thursday. This followed his bronze win on Wednesday. Nishchay managed to throw over 19m four times out of six attempts, with his best effort occurring on the fifth try.

India's Medal Wins

Earlier that day, India added two more bronze medals to their tally. Lakshita Mahlawat achieved a throw of 41.30m in the U-18 girls' discus throw event. Meanwhile, Shourya Ambure clocked 13.80 seconds in the U-18 girls' 100m hurdles to secure another bronze. Both athletes contributed significantly to India's overall performance at the championship.

In the boys' shot put event, Han Qigeng from China clinched the gold with a throw of 20.23m. Singapore's Anson Loh took home the bronze with an effort of 18.59m. Nishchay's previous personal best was 18.93m, which he had achieved last month.

Performance Highlights

On Wednesday, Indian athletes also performed admirably in other events. Nitin Gupta secured a silver medal in the boys' 5000m race walk, while Tannu earned silver in the girls' 400m race. Additionally, Nishchay won a bronze in the boys' discus throw and Aarti claimed bronze in the girls' 100m race.

In the U-18 girls' discus throw event, China's Ma Chenyi won gold with a throw of 53.81m, and Zhao Anqi took silver with a distance of 47.89m. In the U-18 girls' 100m hurdles, China's Bao Yinyin and He Yihui won gold and silver respectively, with times of 13.71 seconds and 13.76 seconds.

The Indian contingent's performance at the championship has been commendable, showcasing their talent and determination across various events.
