The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has announced the start date for the Indian Football League's 2025-26 season. The league will commence on February 27, following a six-day delay from its initial schedule of February 21. Two matches will mark the opening day, with Namdhari FC playing against Aizawl FC and Chanmari FC facing Gokulam Kerala FC.

The upcoming season will adopt a two-stage format as proposed by the clubs. In the first stage, 10 clubs will compete in a single-leg home-and-away round-robin format. This structure ensures each team plays every other team once at home and once away.

Format and Progression

In the second stage, teams will be split into two groups based on their standings from stage one. The top half will enter a championship round, while the bottom half will participate in a centralised relegation round. Points earned in the first stage will carry over to maintain competitiveness throughout the league.

The team leading at the conclusion of stage two will be declared champions of the Indian Football League. This team will also earn promotion to the Indian Super League for the 2026-27 season, providing an opportunity to compete at a higher level.

League Rebranding

Previously known as the I-League, the Indian Football League is India's second tier of men's professional football. The rebranding aims to enhance its identity and align with international naming conventions, reflecting its status within Indian football.
