Saudi Pro League: Al-Nassr Signs Cristiano Ronaldo For 2000 Crore, A Jet And More
Cristiano Ronaldo has committed to Al-Nassr for another two years, quelling rumours of a return to European football. Despite being the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League, he hasn't secured a league title yet. The club's lacklustre performance also kept them from qualifying for the FIFA Club World Cup. However, recent developments have led to Ronaldo extending his stay.
Lucrative Contract Details
Ronaldo's new contract with Al-Nassr is reportedly worth £178 million annually. This includes a £24.5 million signing bonus, increasing to £38 million in the second year. Additional incentives include an £8 million bonus if Al-Nassr wins the Saudi Pro League and a £5 million reward for an Asian Champions League victory.

The agreement also offers Ronaldo a 15% stake in Al-Nassr, valued at approximately £33 million. Furthermore, he will receive bonuses of £80,000 per goal and £40,000 per assist, both increasing by 20% in the second year. The club has also promised sponsorship deals worth £60 million and will cover private jet expenses amounting to £4 million.
Impact on Saudi Football
Ronaldo's arrival in 2023 marked a significant shift in Saudi football, attracting players nearing the end of their careers to the region. A source from the Public Investment Fund (PIF), which heavily invests in Saudi football, stated that Ronaldo's presence has been crucial for developing the league over the past two and a half years.
Last month, Ronaldo hinted at leaving by posting "This chapter is over" after Al-Nassr finished third without any trophies. Despite this, his continued presence is expected to further open doors for elite and young players to join Saudi clubs.
The PIF, backed by oil wealth, controls several Pro League teams like Al-Nassr, Al Hilal, and Al Ahli. This financial backing has enabled such high-profile signings and investments in Saudi football.
