Vinod Kambli’s Heartfelt Thanks: 'I Am Alive Because Of My Doctors' After Brain Clot Treatment
Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli, who has been diagnosed with clots in his brain, is on the road to recovery and has expressed deep gratitude to the doctors who saved his life. Kambli, 52, is currently receiving treatment at Akruti Hospital in Thane, Maharashtra, after his health took a sudden downturn. His condition initially worsened due to a urinary infection, leading to multiple hospitalizations last month, and more recently, an alarming deterioration of his health.
In an emotional statement from his hospital bed, Kambli held the doctor's hand and expressed his heartfelt thanks. "I am alive because of the doctors here. All I would say is that I will do whatever sir asks me to. People will see the inspiration that I'll give them," Kambli said, visibly grateful for the care he is receiving.

Health Struggles and Hospitalization
Kambli had been facing health challenges for some time. His condition took a serious turn on Saturday night when he was rushed to the hospital with severe cramps, fever, dizziness, and drowsiness. His treating doctor, Dr. Vivek Dwivedi, explained that Kambli was suffering from a urinary tract infection and electrolyte imbalance, which caused his cramps and low blood pressure. The doctors quickly started him on antibiotics to stabilize his condition.
A Long Road to Recovery
Despite the critical nature of his health, Kambli is showing signs of improvement. He greeted doctors, hospital staff, and fans with a smile, acknowledging their support. Hospital in-charge S Singh has promised to provide Kambli with lifelong free treatment. Kambli's road to recovery is ongoing, with continuous monitoring and treatment.
A Challenging Past
Kambli's financial condition has been precarious for years, with the former cricketer surviving on a ₹30,000 monthly pension from the BCCI. Despite offers of help from his 1983 World Cup-winning teammates like Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar, Kambli's past struggles with addiction and rehab have been well-documented. He has undergone 14 rehabilitation programs in the past, and now faces the possibility of undergoing another one to secure financial aid.
A Career Cut Short
Kambli's cricketing career was once full of promise, especially after his breakthrough performances in 1994 when he scored back-to-back double centuries against England and Zimbabwe. However, his career was marred by a penchant for a flashy lifestyle, which led to indiscipline and a premature end to his international cricket journey at just 28. Despite these setbacks, Kambli remains a beloved figure in Indian cricket, and his comeback story continues to inspire.
Though his career faded, Kambli's ongoing health battle and his emotional plea for help highlight his resilience, and the cricketing world has rallied to support him during this tough time.
