Two Time World Cup Winner Daren Sammy To Be West Indies' New Head Coach
Daren Sammy, a two-time T20 World Cup winner, will assume the role of head coach for the West Indies cricket team across all formats starting 1st April 2025. Cricket West Indies (CWI) made this announcement on Monday. Sammy is currently coaching the team's white-ball format and will now also oversee Test matches.
The news was shared by CWI's Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, during a press briefing. "Daren Sammy will be the Head Coach of all the Senior Men's teams as of April 1, 2025. The announcement made by CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe at the Quarterly Press Conference in St Vincent moments ago," stated CWI.

Sammy's New Role
Sammy expressed his excitement about his expanded role with the West Indies team. He said, "It's an honour to represent the West Indies in any capacity and with the new role he has mapped out the new direction. I am really excited about the added responsibility and the new journey, one that I think myself and my team will be prepared for," according to CWI.
Since taking over as white-ball coach in 2023, Sammy has led the team to notable successes. Under his guidance, they achieved a clean sweep against Bangladesh in a home ODI series with a 3-0 victory and also secured a 2-1 series win against England.
Performance Under Sammy
The West Indies have shown commendable performance under Sammy's leadership. In ODIs, they have played 28 matches, winning 15 and losing 12. In T20Is, they have participated in 35 games, securing victories in 20 of them.
As Sammy prepares to take on this new challenge from April 2025, fans are hopeful for continued success across all formats under his leadership.
