Shift Delhi vs Mumbai IPL 2025 Match: DC Co-owner Parth Jindal Writes To BCCI

In light of recent disruptions caused by weather, the BCCI's decision to relocate the RCB vs SRH match from Bengaluru to Lucknow has sparked a series of requests from other franchise owners for similar considerations. This move was made to mitigate the impact of rain on the game schedule. The change has led to discussions around the necessity of adapting schedules in response to adverse weather conditions in various cities to ensure the smooth progression of the league.

Delhi Capitals, one of the franchises affected by the unpredictable weather, have taken proactive steps to address the situation. The team's co-owner, Parth Jindal, reached out to the BCCI with a request to move their crucial match against Mumbai Indians away from Mumbai. Citing the precedent set by the recent shift of the RCB vs SRH game, Jindal's request emphasized the importance of the match and the potential for heavy unseasonal rains, indicated by a yellow alert in Mumbai, to disrupt play. He expressed concern over the forecast for heavy showers on the day of the match, underlining the risk of the game being washed out and its significant implications for the team's chances in the league.

The weather has been particularly challenging this season, affecting not just Mumbai but also other parts of the Southern and Southwestern regions of India. An unseasonal monsoon in May has led to cancellations and relocations of several matches. For instance, the match between RCB and KKR in Bengaluru was called off due to rain, while Hyderabad's wet conditions necessitated moving SRH's final home game to Delhi. These disruptions have highlighted the need for flexible scheduling to accommodate unforeseen weather conditions.

The implications of weather disruptions are significant, especially as teams vie for playoff positions. The Delhi Capitals, currently sitting on 13 points, are in a precarious position. Winning their last two matches could secure their advancement, but a washout against Mumbai Indians could complicate their path to the playoffs. Jindal's request to the BCCI is not just about avoiding a washout; it's about ensuring fair play and consistency in how matches are scheduled in light of weather forecasts.

KKR has also voiced concerns about the need for consistency in handling weather-related schedule changes. After the addition of an extra 60 minutes to cover for rain delays was introduced following the last-minute venue change for the RCB vs SRH match, KKR questioned why a similar provision wasn't available for their washed-out match against RCB in Bengaluru. According to KKR CEO Venky Mysore, had there been an allocation for an extra hour, a shorter version of the game might have been feasible, thus preventing the total cancellation of the match.
