4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Maharashtra's Hingoli; Tremors Felt in Nanded, Parbhani

Residents of parts of Maharashtra were jolted awake in the early hours of Thursday after a 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck Hingoli district, with tremors also being felt in neighbouring Nanded and Parbhani districts.

According to information available, the earthquake occurred at around 1:40 am on July 9, with its epicentre located near Shinde Pangra village in Hingoli district.

The sudden tremors prompted many residents to rush out of their homes in fear, with several taking to social media to share their experiences of waking up to shaking doors, rattling windows and vibrating furniture.

While the tremors were clearly felt across Hingoli, Nanded and Parbhani, there were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage. Authorities are monitoring the situation, and officials said assessments are underway.

The earthquake occurred when most people were asleep, adding to the panic among residents who were startled by the unexpected shaking in the middle of the night.

District administrations have urged people to remain calm and rely only on official updates. Disaster management teams are keeping a close watch for any aftershocks or reports of structural damage.

Maharashtra occasionally experiences low to moderate seismic activity, particularly in parts of the Marathwada region, although earthquakes of this intensity rarely cause significant destruction.
